There are a number of information sources available in the market that should be viewed as “required reading” to complement any foray into the Federal Government market.
AusTender (Tenders) – www.tenders.gov.au
AusTender provides centralised publication of Australian Federal Government business opportunities, annual procurement plans, multi-use lists and contracts awarded. This is a great site to get across, although note that sometimes categorisation of opportunities can be a bit curious (often opportunities are categorised by non-expert resources resulting in tenders being uploaded to the wrong place). We recommend services like www.tenderbytes.com.au that do all the hard work for you.
AusTender (Contracts)
AusTender also publishes information on contracts undertaken by each agency. While this provides great info on work being undertaken in each agency (and good to see what competitors are doing) – many contracts are not listed so it can at times be misleading.
Department of Finance – ICT Procurement and Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines
The Department of Finance oversees the policy that underpins ICT procurement. Both of the sites below detail (and we mean ‘detail’) the low level policy approach for ICT procurement:
Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines - http://www.finance.gov.au/publications/fmg-series/procurement-guidelines/index.html
ICT Procurement – http://www.finance.gov.au/procurement/ict-procurement/index.html
